On one of the coolest evenings in recent weeks the little town of Rock Hall welcomed Chestertown native Sofia Ortiz to the Mainstay. Sofia is a guitarist, singer songwriter who has played mostly solo performances at small venues such as the Rock Hall Pavilion, Robert Ortiz Studios, the lobby at the Garfield Center for the arts, and The Root Cellar, a small venue at Bard College where she is currently a student. At the Mainstay she was joined by Andrew Wade on drums and Jeff Davis on bass.

The Mainstay is small comfortable place that seats about 120. No seat in the house is more than 30 feet from the stage and listening to music there is almost like turning on the stereo and turning off the lights in your own living room.

On their opening night there was about 50 people in attendance, including Sofia Ortiz’s mother, Pam Ortiz. Pam Ortiz returned for the evening from New York where Red Devil Moon, a musical that she wrote the music and lyrics, which is part of the New York Fringe Festival is currently being played. It was clear that everyone was enjoying the songs with applause after each song and a standing ovation at the conclusion of the second set.

Listening to the show it often felt like she was playing in your living room, conversing with the audience between songs.

There is one more show to go in her two day date at the Mainstay. Tickets are still available for the August 20th show which will begin at 8pm.

Most of the songs in the set can also be heard at sofiaortiz.bandcamp.com

Call Now to Reserve Tickets at (410) 639-9133. The Mainstay is located at 5753 Main St, Rock Hall, MD.
