Main Street Gallery
June 29, 2017
The artists of Main Street Gallery are very excited to announce that on second Saturday, July 8,2017 from 5-8 pm, Barbara Lockhardt will be signing her book “Elizabeth’s Field” at an artists’ reception at the gallery at 518 Poplar St. in Cambridge. Elizabeth’s Field is an engaging and moving historical fiction based on the story of Elizabeth, a real life freed slave and landowner who lived in Dorchester County around the time of the Civil War. The book signing will be in conjunction with the gallery’s summer show, “Humanity” which was inspired in part by Ms. Lockhardt’s book and in part by the 50th anniversary of the racial disturbances in Cambridge.
According to a wikipedia definition, Humanity is simply “the condition of being human”. The word can also refer to “a set of strengths focused on “tending others” “ or it could reference the human species as a whole. Humanity is a broad subject open to many artistic interpretations and the artists of Main Street Gallery will share their very personal visions of this theme through their drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, ceramics, fiber and mixed media works.
”Humanity” will be on view from June 30 through August 28, 2017.
There will be another artists’ reception for “Humanity” on second Saturday, August 12 from 5-8 pm. Both receptions are free and everyone is invited. Light refreshments will be served. Main Street gallery is located directly across from Jimmie and Sooks Restaurant. Their regular hours are Friday through Monday 11-4pm. There is parking on the street and behind the gallery.
