Star Hill Museum
The Star Hill Museum cordially invites you and your family to join Juneteenth Celebration, Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
The Star Hill Museum was founded thirty-two years ago by Lucreatia Wilson, Minnie Thompson, Lola Gibbs, Jack Gowens, and assisted by Florence Brown. The Museum has served Delaware families and visitors from throughout the country. Star Hill historical Church Museum is listed in National Park Service Underground Railroad Network to Freedom program. The church is on the National Register of Historic Places, and was recently featured in the New York Times Travel section titled; Harriet Tubman’s Path to Freedom by Ron Stodgill, February 24, 2017.
Juneteenth program includes an exciting presentation by Willis Phelps, Historian and Civil War re-enactor. Theme: Once Upon a Time in America. Part I. “Esau”, A Former Slave/Soldier who talks about “Juneteenth”. Part II. The Conductor, Harriet Ross Tubman. Part III. Pvt. James H. Elbert, USCT; Rescue mission at the Combahee River, South Carolina. Q/A Session follows: Lucreatia Wilson, member of Star Hill AME Church for the past sixty-eight years will speak briefly on the future closing of the Star Hill Museum.
