Starting Friday August 4, 2017 fashion features at DCA with the opening of “Stills and Beauties: The Fashion and Fine Art Photography of Plamen Petkov”. The exhibit will run through Sunday, August 27, 2017.

Plamen Petkov is a still life and beauty photographer based in New York City. He attended Parsons School of Design and went on to open his own studio in midtown Manhattan. Plamen has shot for numerous magazines including Harpers Bazaar, W Magazine, V Magazine, Vogue, Numero, Scientific American, Everyday with Rachel Ray, Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Paper Magazine, Wired, Time Magazine, Newsweek, New York Magazine, Forbes, Bloomberg Businessweek, Self Magazine, Elle Magazine, Glamour Magazine, Cosmopolitan and many others.

Campaigns include: Estee Lauder, MAC cosmetics, American Express, L’Oreal, Frito Lay, Amway, AT&T, DeBeers, Revlon, and Intel, to name a few. Plamen is the recipient of numerous photography awards including Communication Arts, Society of Publishers and Designers, and several awards from American Photography. His work has been shown at Exit Art-NYC, Dumbo Arts Center Brooklyn NYC and Art Depot Red Dot Gallery-Sofia Bulgaria as well as by participation in numerous group shows.

Second Saturday Reception will be held on August 12 from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. featuring a special video presentation, fashion show, and display of floral interpretations provided by members of the Dorchester Garden Club. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Both children and adults are invited to enjoy this workshop sponsored by Alpha Genesis Community Development Corporation, a 501(c)3 organization. The event is partially funded by a grant from Dorchester Center for the Arts through the Maryland State Arts Council, and will be held on the 2nd floor at DCA on August 27, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Leading the workshop is Baba Dennis Minus and team, with over 25 years of experience using drumming and folkloric dance to teach children and adults. Minus has worked with numerous theater programs, including the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre Company and the Black Arts Theatre Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While in Milwaukee, he was Company Manager for the Great American Children’s Theatre Company. Working with the Ko-Thi Dance Company in Milwaukee, Dennis studied with renowned artists including Katherine Dunham, Joe Hall (dance), Mor Thiam, Ladji Camara, Baba Olatunji (African Drumming), and the National Dance Troupes of Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Cameroon. After Milwaukee came a stint in New York City and then a move to Delaware, where Minus became the founder and Artistic Director of the Daande Lenol African Ballet and Drum Company of Delaware State University. He is also the Artistic Director and co-founder of the Sankofa African dance and Drum Company of Dover.
