Plein Air Easton
July 12, 2017
Beginning today 58 of the world’s premier Plein Air painters will travel to Easton to brave the heat and humidity to paint our beautiful landscape in hopes of winning prizes, selling their work and in some cases launching their careers to new heights. Community members will open their homes to host them. Hundreds of volunteers will band together to work events for everyone’s enjoyment. They will transform the Tidewater Inn, Avalon Theatre, Waterfowl Building and Academy Art Museum into galleries where hundreds of fresh paintings will sell. Free educational content will be offered to hundreds of people eager to improve their artistic skills. New friends will be made.
I want to thank you for the way that you participate in Plein Air Easton and ask that you consider a few ways that you can help make the festival even better.
First, please encourage your friends and neighbors to attend our events and invest in the artwork created as part of this festival. It is a great experience and we can always use your help to spread the word.
Second, visit pleinaireaston.com for complete festival information or come by the Plein Air Easton Information Center in the Lobby of the Avalon Theatre beginning this Sunday. There are more events, educational opportunities and fun planned than ever. I don’t want you to miss out.
Finally, this year has thrown us an extra curveball late in our planning cycle. For the last several years we were able to offer an Artists Choice award in the amount of $5,000. Many artists consider receiving this award to be even more meaningful than the grand prize, as it is an award that comes from their peers. This year our sponsor notified us that they are unable to underwrite the Artist Choice Award. Instead of eliminating the award, we have decided to put a call out to all plein air patrons to consider supporting the award. While the best way to support the Festival and our artists is to join the Friends of Plein Air Easton and purchase paintings, we hope you will consider showing the artists how much they mean to this community by making a tax deductible contribution to help to underwrite the Artist Choice Award. Donations can be made online at: Artist Choice Award or in person during the event at the Avalon, Armory or Academy. Thousands of people participate in this event every year. If only 100 people contribute $50 we will have our $5000 award…and what a smashing way to end this year’s festival if we are able to give away more. The artists will vote for the winner on Friday evening as they always have in the past (before the judge’s picks are announced) but the winner and prize amount will not be announced until the conclusion of the Festival on Sunday.
We hope to see you in the next two weeks
