Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum
(ST MICHAELS, MD – September 27, 2017)
Bob Grieser’s Lens on the Chesapeake, a photography exhibition featuring both black and white and color images, will open at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md., on Friday, October 13, 2017. Running in CBMM’s Van Lennep Auditorium through June 3, 2018, it showcases iconic photos of life on the Chesapeake Bay, and of the Bay itself.
The late Bob Grieser (1946 – 2017) was a photojournalist who worked for the Indianapolis Star, Washington Star, Los Angeles Times, and Chesapeake Bay Magazine. He covered yacht racing events and sailing in waters around the globe including the America’s Cup, Louis Vuitton Cup, and Heineken Regatta. In 1990, Grieser published Chesapeake Bay, an art book featuring his black-and-white photography. An exhibition entitled Capturing the Spirit of the Chesapeake Bay, drawn in part from the photographs in his book, toured to museums from St. Michaels to San Diego in the following years.
In 2004, CBMM commissioned Grieser to photograph scenes from around the region for its At Play on the Bay exhibition. This new exhibition features 15 photographs selected from Grieser’s earlier one, Capturing the Spirit
“Bob Grieser’s scenes of working and playing on the Bay and in the Chesapeake region are simply stunning, and we’re happy to have this opportunity to share them with the public once again,” said CBMM Chief Curator Pete Lesher.
The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is a world-class maritime museum dedicated to preserving and exploring the history, environment and people of the entire Chesapeake Bay, with the values of relevancy, authenticity, and stewardship guiding its mission.
