Rehoboth Art League
REHOBOTH BEACH, DE – October 23, 2017
If you are completely new to pastel painting, “Beginning Pastels” classes at the Rehoboth Art League, on Thursday mornings November 9 through December 7, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to noon, will initiate you into the wonderful work of pastels. This class encompasses the planning, preparing and executing of pastel painting. Local artist Edilu Nehrbas will help you explore technique, texture and materials to create a simple but dynamic composition. The cost of this series of four classes is $150 for members and $185 for non-members.Pastel painting, as we know it today, emerged in the 18th century with artists such as Jean-Baptiste Perronneau, Rosalba Carriera, and Maurice Quentin de la Tour. While oil paintings over the centuries have become discolored and cracked with age, pastel paintings retain their original freshness. With pastels, you can achieve a wonderfully velvety texture. The rich colors are easy to blend and they can have a splendid luminosity. The finished pieces can look just as luminescent as paintings, yet the process to create them resembles drawing more than painting.
To register for this class, go to www.rehobothartleague.org or call the Art League at 302-227-8408 ext. 112. All classes will be held at the Rehoboth Art League located at 12 Dodds Lane in Henlopen Acres, Rehoboth Beach.
