Silk screening is an ancient printmaking technique. The ongoing modernization of this printmaking method allows for more experienced artists as well as beginners to use this technique as a stand-alone art form. Local artist Nina Mickelsen will teach “Introduction to Silk Screening” for the Rehoboth Art League in her studio in Lewes. In this two-hour workshop on Tuesday, February 13, from 6 to 8 p.m., Ms. Mickelsen will explain the various ways to use this printmaking form and how to use a silk screening studio. The workshop will also include learning about the equipment as well as the use of digital software as a helpful tool. The cost of this workshop is $35 for members and $70 for non-members.

This workshop will prepare students for Ms. Mickelsen’s more advanced class – “Printmaking – Silk Screening 101.” In this three-day class each student will complete at least one silk screen art project. The focus of this class is on the basics but individual exploration will be encouraged. Each participant will receive individual attention and support. Previous art experience is not required. This class, which will also be taught at Nina Mickelsen’s Lewes studio, is scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, February 19, 21 and 23 from 9:30 a.m. to noon or Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, April 16, 18, and 20 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. In addition to the registration fee of $160 for members and $195 for non-members, a $45 materials fee will be paid to the instructor for the surfaces, acrylic inks and various emulsions.

After a long, international business career in both Europe and the US, Nina Mickelsen went on to study printmaking, painting and graphic design at the Corcoran School of Art and Design, The George Washington University, in D.C. Her work shows in galleries and juried art shows along the East Coast, from New York to Florida. To register for her workshop and/or class, go to or call the Art League at 302-227-8408 ext. 112.
