Migration Opens in Chestertown with Visit from Maryland’s First Lady

Joining the opening was Yumi Hogan, MD First Lady. Mrs Hogan is an artist herself and has spent time as First Lady as an advocate for the arts.

The show began at RiverArts in Chestertown with the art exhibition of works by KCPS Art students with art inspired by Jacob Lawrence 60 panels of scenes from the Great Migration of African Americans from the “Jim Crow” South to the Industrial North.
Then it moved to Garfield Center for the Arts for the next 2 stages. First is readings of 5 short plays each based on one of the panels. Following this a scaled version of the locally written and produced Migration story – Red Devil Moon, by Robert Earl Price and Pam Ortiz, featuring the Pam Ortiz Band and Sombarkin.

Migration continues through the weekend. Friday and Saturday, November 2 & 3, at 6 at RiverArts and at 7 at the Garfield Center. On Sunday November 4, 2 p.m. at RiverArts, 7 p.m. at Garfield Center.
