Worcester

Snow Hill, MD

In celebration of Walk Maryland Day on October 2, 2024, the Worcester County Health Department is excited to invite you to walk or move your way and join us for a self-directed Just Walk Community-Wide Scavenger Hunt. The scavenger hunt will take place from October 4th-6th, 2024 at the following locations:

– Byrd Park (Snow Hill)

– Girdletree Park (Girdletree)

– Northern Worcester Athletic Complex (Berlin)

– Stephen Decatur Park (Berlin)

– Cypress Park (Pocomoke City)

– Newtown Park (Pocomoke City)

– White Horse Park (Ocean Pines)

– Robin Hood Park (Ocean Pines)

– Herring Creek Park (Ocean City)

– Bayside Park (Ocean City)

When you register, you’ll be able to download the Scavenger Hunt Tracking Log. If you prefer, you can also request a paper copy to be mailed to you. Then, from October 4th to 6th, you can visit any of the participating parks to search for hidden Just Walk sneakers that have health messages on them. As you find each sneaker, record the message and the park where you found it on your tracking sheet, and leave the sneakers in place for others to discover. Everyone who submits their completed tracking sheet will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a prize.

Submissions should be emailed to crystal.bell1@maryland.gov or can be mailed to the Snow Hill Health Department (6040 Public Landing Rd, Snow Hill, MD).

Participants are also encouraged to pick up their Just Walk Passport, which will document participation in each walk event. Those who complete all nine walks will receive a prize and be entered into a raffle to win a grand prize. Passports will be available September 25th at the Snow Hill Health Department, Berlin Health Center, or the Pocomoke Health Center.

This is a family-friendly event and a fun way to increase physical activity by participating in the scavenger hunt. “Walking is the state’s official exercise and continues to be one of the easiest forms of physical activity and it’s free to everyone. There are many reasons to walk. There are also various health benefits that can be gained from simply walking,” said Mimi Dean, Director of Prevention Services.

Thank you to the town of Berlin, Snow Hill, Pocomoke, Ocean Pines Recreation and Parks, Ocean City Recreation and Parks, and Worcester County Recreation and Parks for their continued support and their efforts to keep our parks beautiful and accessible.
