The Rehoboth Beach Film Society announces the next play in the exciting series of National Theatre Live screenings. National Theatre Live is a groundbreaking project that presents the best of British theater live from the London stage on film to cinemas across the UK and around the world.
Tennessee Williams’ twentieth century masterpiece CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF played a strictly limited season in London’s West End in 2017. Following his smash hit production of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, Benedict Andrews’ “thrilling revival” (“The New York Times”) starred Sienna Miller alongside, Jack O’Connell and Colm Meaney.
On a steamy night in Mississippi, a Southern family gather at their cotton plantation to celebrate Big Daddy’s birthday. The scorching heat is almost as oppressive as the lies they tell. Brick and Maggie dance round the secrets and sexual tensions that threaten to destroy their marriage. With the future of the family at stake, which version of the truth is real – and which will win out? [2018, UK, Runtime: 3 hours, 13 minutes, with one intermission, Rated: R].
“The best feature of Andrews’s production is that it combines emotional intensity with a leavening humour,” writes Michael Billington of “The Guardian”. Paul Taylor of “The Independent” praises the director for his “brilliant, lacerating account of the play that jolts you out of any complacent sense of cosy familiarity with the dramatist’s characteristic terrain.”
Screenings will be 12:30 pm on Saturday, March 10th, 12:30 pm on Monday, March 12th and 6:00 pm on Tuesday, March 13rd 2018 at the Cinema Art Theater, 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Dartmouth Plaza (behind the Lewes Wawa). Admission for National Theatre Live is $18 for RBFS members, $20 general admission and $15 for ages 16 and under.
