On February 18, 2018 at approximately 6:24 PM, troopers from the North East barrack responded to the area near eastbound Pulaski Highway (US-40) prior to the intersection of Elkton Road (MD-279) in Elkton for a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Upon their arrival, troopers located a white female lying in the eastbound lanes of Pulaski Highway. Emergency Services personnel pronounced the female deceased at the scene. The pedestrian is identified as Gertrude M. Anderson, 40, from North East Maryland. Anderson was pronounced deceased at the scene by Emergency Services personnel after being struck by a black 2004 Infinity G35 in the roadway at approximately 6:24pm.
Located in a business parking lot, east of the location of the collision, was a black 2004 Infinity G35. The driver of the Infinity is identified as Alexis A. Espinoza Castillero, 20, from Newark Delaware.
The preliminary investigation, corroborated by a witness revealed the female was wearing dark colored clothing, walking in a dimly lit area of eastbound Pulaski Highway when the Infinity struck the pedestrian in the roadway. Post collision, it is believed the body was then struck by an unknown number of passing vehicles traveling eastbound on Pulaski Highway. The identity of the female is unknown at this time.
Troopers along with a crash reconstructionist responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. Eastbound Pulaski Highway between Old Elk Neck Road and Elkton Road was closed for the investigation for approximately three hours.
Charges may be pending the investigation and consultation with the Cecil County State’s Attorney’s Office.
