On Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, a joint traffic safety operation was conducted in Talbot County. The agencies that participated in this operation were the Maryland State Police Easton Barrack, Police Communications Officers, Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, Talbot County 911 Center, Easton Police Department, and Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. K9 units from these agencies participated and the Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.
This operation was designed to identify traffic safety issues as well as criminal activity occurring on the roadways by “looking beyond the traffic stop”. Today’s environment is forever changing, but what remains constant is the need to ensure the safety of the public. This requires a balance between many issues. Crime control remains a public concern and major crimes continue to receive broad publicity.
For most communities, traffic safety is also a concern that has at least equal, but in many cases more potential to cause injury and deaths among citizens. For this reason, it is important to conduct operations such as this, and have a cohesive bond between law enforcement agencies in Talbot County.
Approximately (32) Troopers, Deputies and Police officers along with (5) K9 teams, and (5) investigators from MVA participated in this traffic safety operation. Officers conducted (233) traffic stops and (42) commercial vehicle inspections. Officers issued (69) citations, issued (194) warnings, issued (1) equipment repair order. K9 teams conducted (11) K9 scans that resulted the issuance of (6) civil citations for possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana. Additionally these traffic stops lead to the arrest of (4) motorist which had active arrest warrants.
We strongly believe that the use of visible traffic enforcement can have a positive effect on the overall public safety, including the reduction of vehicular crashes, criminal incidents, and other forms of social harm.
Anyone that observes a traffic or criminal violation is encouraged to contact their local Law Enforcement Agency. The Maryland State Police Easton Barrack can be contacted at 410-819-4747.
