On Saturday, March 17th, the Rehoboth Art League in Henlopen Acres will blossom with the works of 250 young artists. Students from 25 public and private schools will gather for the Opening of the 22nd annual “Young at Art” exhibit on the historic campus of the Art League.
This year’s “Young at Art” exhibit will be on view in the Corkran and Tubbs Galleries from March 17th – April 1st, with an Opening Reception on Saturday, March 17th from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Awards will be presented at 11:00 am.
The exhibit will feature teacher selected art work created by students in elementary, middle and high schools in Sussex County. Each Art Teacher has chosen and prepared student works to represent the school, which will be judged with ribbons, cash awards, and scholarships. In addition to a Best in Show Award and Awards of Excellence Prizes for elementary, middle, and high school students, one promising student from each school and outreach site will be honored with a James Kenneth Derrickson Scholarship. The Derrickson Scholarship provides for a year’s worth of selected Rehoboth Art League classes. Additionally, four promising young middle school artists will receive a Picasso O’Keeffe Scholarship to be used towards art supplies or classes.
This exhibition is being underwritten by PNC Bank and is sponsored by the Village Improvement Association and The Studio Group. This program is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on www.DelawareScene.com.
