Main Street Chestertown kicks off a second season of monthly “Cars on High” events downtown on Thursday, April 19, from 6 to 8 p.m., with special musical guests The High and Wides. The event, which is free and open to all, takes place in the 300 block of High Street and around Fountain Park. Proud car owners park their antique, exotic, classic, or custom automobiles and get ready to share them with other “car people” and the general public.
Organized by car enthusiasts Jon and Barbara Slocum, the event will continue on every third Thursday through October (May 17, June 21, July 19, August 16, September 20, and October 18). All events will be as weather permits, so check the Cars on High Facebook page (facebook.com/CarsOnHighStreet) for updates if the forecast is questionable.
The 300 block of High Street will be closed from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm for the occasion. Crazy Rick’s and Papa Smurf’s food trucks will provide snacks and casual fare.
The popular High and Wides play a blend of bluegrass, old-time, country, boogie, blues, rockabilly and western swing. The band features three veterans of long-time MD bluegrass fixture Chester River Runoff — Marc Dykeman (guitar and vocals), Sam Guthridge (banjo, mandolin, and vocals), and Mike Buccino (Upright Bass). They will be joined by Shannon Bielski on fiddle.
