Meet the Author: Randolph George – Memoir of a Skipjack
Saturday, April 14, 3:00-5:00 pm (2nd Saturday)
In 1993, retired neurosurgeon Randolph George bought an aging skipjack, a boat historically used on the Chesapeake Bay for dredging oysters. As a crew of boat smiths restored to health the skipjack Martha Lewis, her timbers began to give up the secrets of her fascinating maritime past. George takes us along on the journey in his debut release, Memoir of a Skipjack (Salt Water Media). On April 14th George will be at talking about his book and his experiences with the Martha Lewis. The afternoon will conclude with a book signing. Copies of Memoir of a Skipjack will be available for purchase. Admission is free.
Absolute Beginners Acrylic Portrait Painting
April 19 – May 17, Thursdays, 5:30-8:30 pm
Class will focus on using a limited palette and classic techniques to make realistic portraits in an
easy step by step process. Whether you are new to acrylic painting or have been painting for years and are having trouble mixing skin tones while working with fast drying acrylic paint, this class is for you. $80 members, $115 future members, plus $50 materials payable to instructor Will Dennehy for two 11×14 gallery frame canvases and five 8×10 gesso panels.
Intro to Watercolor
Two sessions: April 19 – May 10, and May 17 – June 7, Thursdays 1:30-4:00 pm.
This is the ideal beginning level class to learn basic techniques such as setting up a palette, mixing colors, brush stroke, etc. Students will experiment with several techniques and produce a finished painting. No experience necessary. Supply list available at DCA. $90 DCA members, $135 future members. Instructor: Diana Evans.
Intro to Drawing for Young People and Adults
Two 4-week bi-weekly sessions: April 17 – May 10, and May 15 – June 7 Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Learn the fundamentals of drawing and develop the ability to see as an artist. Students will draw from observation using a variety of subjects. Instruction is provided on how to use line, value, gesture, and perspective. Contrast, form, composition, and process will also be presented and explored. $90 DCA members, $125 future members. Instructor: Robert Gladney.
Principles of Ceramics: Hand building and Throwing
April 21 – June 2 (no class on May 26), Saturdays, 10 a.m. – noon.
For students at all levels- beginner through advanced, adults and teens. Learn to form works by hand or on the potter’s wheel, select and apply glazes and experiment with firing techniques. Instruction is provided at the level of the individual student and is given in a relaxed and creative environment. All materials provided. Please wear or bring a change of clothes suitable for messy work! $125 DCA members, $155 future members. Instructor: Robert Gladney.
GUEST ARTIST GALA APRIL 28 ~ “MASQUERADE”
