Maryland State Police Investigating Fatal Crash In Caroline County

Maryland State Police are continuing to investigate a three-vehicle crash in which one person died and two children were injured this morning Caroline County.

Shortly before 7 a.m., troopers from the Easton Barrack responded to the area of Route 16 and Williston Road in Denton, Md., on a report of a three-vehicle crash. According to a preliminary investigation, a garbage truck, being driven by Patrick Bateman Sr., 56, of Mardela Springs, Md., was traveling south on Harmony Road when he lost control of the truck and crossed the center line. The truck then struck a trailer being towed by a Chevrolet pickup truck, which was being driven by Thomas Pinder, 58, of Easton, Md.

The garbage truck then continued south in the northbound lane on Harmony Road before striking a Honda Pilot head-on. The driver of the Honda Pilot, Brittany Plumer, 27, of Queen Anne, Md., was declared deceased at the scene.

Two juveniles in the Honda Pilot, a 3-year-old boy and a 8-year-old girl, were injured in the crash. Both juveniles were initially transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

No one in the other two vehicles were injured as a result of this crash. Alcohol is not a factor in the crash.

The Caroline County Sheriff’s Department, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, the Maryland State Police Crash Team and Maryland State Police Aviation Command assisted at the scene.

The road was closed from about 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The crash remains under investigation.
