ST MICHAELS, MD – The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md., recently hosted Bosnian students from the University of Sarajevo. The students are participants in the Saving What Matters international exchange program, an effort facilitated by former CBMM shipwright Mike Vlahovich and funded through the nonprofit World Learning’s Communities Connecting Heritage Program. Through the program, students from Maryland’s Goucher College and the University of Sarajevo work together to explore the value of storytelling in heritage preservation, culminating in the students visiting each other’s countries.
The Bosnian students are spending a few weeks on the Eastern Shore with Vlahovich’s Coastal Heritage Alliance, several of which were spent at CBMM learning about boatbuilding, museum practices, and educational programming. To learn more, visit cbmm.org.
