Haven Ministries has announced the opening of a second food pantry in Queen Anne’s County at Centreville United Methodist Church at 608 Church Hill Road in Centreville to increase the northern part of the county’s use of the services, including residents from zip codes 21617 and 21657 and north. The new location is in addition to Haven Ministries Food Pantry at Safe Harbor Presbyterian Church at 931 Love Point Road in Stevensville, serving residents from zip codes 21658 and south. Both food pantries, which are open the third Friday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., will open July 20, 2018 and will serve clients of each geographical location. Until July 20, the Food Pantry at Safe Harbor Presbyterian will still continue to serve all Queen Anne’s County residents.
According to Krista Pettit, executive director of Haven Ministries, the food pantry currently serves about 235 clients with over 10,000 pounds of food being given out each month. She adds, “We need volunteers for both food pantries. Volunteers set up the food for shopping, help disabled and handicapped clients to their cars, and clean up after the pantry is held.”
Haven Ministries is encouraging youth and civic organizations and businesses to volunteer. Youth volunteers must be accompanied by an adult. Community resource organizations and area churches are also being invited to set up informational tables during the hours the food pantry will be open. Pettit adds, “We want to educate people as well as help them with food items. We have found by providing information and connecting clients to relevant resources, we can really make a difference.”
Haven Ministries is continuing to work with the Maryland Food Bank to provide food items. Food donations of small quantities can also be dropped off at the main entrance of Safe Harbor Presbyterian Church Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
