Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on Saturday night in Caroline County.
At approximately 10:50 p.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Easton Barrack were assisting the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office with locating Richard Clarence Boschi, 83, of Harmony, Md. Boschi suffered from dementia and had walked away from his residence on Harmony Road.
Troopers arrived to the area of Harmony and Nagel roads after a motorist reported to have seen Boschi in the area. A trooper, traveling southbound, located Boschi standing on the northbound fog line of the roadway. At the same time a 2012 Kia optima operated by Joshua Michael Stoner, 25, of Greensboro, Md., was traveling north on Harmony Road.
Before the trooper was able to stop and turn around, Stoner moved partially onto the shoulder due to seeing the Maryland State Police patrol vehicle with its emergency lights activated.
After traveling a short distance, Stoner’s vehicle struck Boschi. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver remained at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
