Main Street Chestertown Announces Logo Contest

Kent, MD

CHESTERTOWN, MD, – The Main Street Chestertown organization invites designers and artists to submit ideas for logos that will embody the character of Chestertown and Main Street’s mission of downtown revitalization. The Main Street design committee and board of directors will select a winning concept and pay the submitting artist $1,000 to refine his or her winning idea and create the necessary specifications for its use.

Logo designs should promote a sense of Chestertown through recognizable visual interpretation, including the choice of typeface and any additional visual elements. The words, “Main Street Chestertown” must be part of the logo. The logo will be used on the nonprofit’s website, stationery, posters, brochures, banners and other print and digital materials.

Submissions are due Monday, September 3, 2018, by noon. They can be emailed as digital files or dropped off at Town Hall, 118 N. Cross Street. There is no limit to the number of concepts one person may submit. Judging will be done anonymously; the review panel will not know who submitted each design. (The review panel may, however, ask a finalist for more detailing before making a final selection.) The initial designs can be preliminary or rough, but the final rendering will need to be in a high-resolution workable file format for print and web and must reproduce well in both color and black and white, and in large and small formats.

Main Street Chestertown is part of a national network of historic downtowns created by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit is guided by the Trust’s tested model for revitalization, and its volunteers work to foster an inviting, diverse and prosperous downtown. Main Street Chestertown’s goals include an increase in the number and variety of successful downtown businesses, special events and activities that attract both residents and visitors to downtown, enhanced streetscapes that contribute to an inviting living and working environment, and an increase in the number of downtown residents. The State of Maryland’s Main Street office provides guidance and resources, and the Town of Chestertown provides office space and administrative support.
