Public Art Between the Bays

Art

Last weekend I attended a presentation in Rock Hall on a project that Main Street Rock Hall is beginning to re-design, re-envision and recreate Rock Hall’s murals. Murals are a classic examples of Public Art.

Public art can be defined as art in any media that has been planed and presented, usually outside accessible for viewing by all.

Over the past few years I have enjoyed seeing and photographing many Public Art pieces on the Delmarva Peninsula. I am always on the lookout for public art pieces since some are in common view, but may not be seen bay many. Last I even put together a calendar with a dozen of my photographs of Public Art.

One of the major goals of the ChesaDel Crier is to bring information on Art and Entertainment activities between the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays, the Delmarva Peninsula. While not an activity Public Art can be and should be enjoyed.

Beginning this Sunday, I will be posting a photograph of a Public Art piece each Sunday.

This week’s Photo is of one of the Murals of Rock Hall. It is located on Main Street on the side of Bayside Foods. The “Celebrating America” mural was completed as part of a summer school “Doin’ the Arts” program in 1996. Unfortunately the mural has deteriorated to a point that it can not be rejuvenated.
