Monday, November 5 at 7:15 pm

The 2018 Seaford Historical Society Lecture Series concludes on November 5, 2018 with guest lecturer Daniel R. Griffith, Director of Cultural Affairs, who will share his research on the Indians of Sussex County. The presentation is titled “American Indian Towns ,Sussex County, Delaware in the 17th Century”. Daniel R. Griffith teams up with the Archaeological Society of Delaware to present his research on the correlation of Captain John Smith’s Map in 1608 and the present-day locations of Indian towns and burial sites in Sussex County. The University of Delaware graduate and head of the Griffith Archaeology Consulting firm gives an in-depth look into American Indian Towns of Sussex County in the 17th Century, and the relationship between the locations that were cultivated as of Capt. John Smith’s map in 1608 and the current landscape. Griffith worked on this project for the State of Delaware for several years in coordination with the Chesapeake Conservancy and the Captain John Smith National Historic Trail. Griffith’s experience and passion for archaeology and history has helped him take a crude map from 1608 and determine the actual locations of these settlements in relationship to present-day landscape.
