St Michaels Art League & Talbot Arts Council Announces Winners of October Show

The Talbot County Arts Council and the St. Michaels Art league are pleased to announce the winners of their first jointly sponsored art show currently being held at the Easton Library.

The event was judged by Julie Madden of Howard County and St. Michaels. Julie, a prior board member and Executive Director of the Maryland State Arts Council, is currently serving as vice-chair of the Maryland State Arts Council’s Counselors. The exhibit includes work in various mediums from artists that live, work or sell their art in Talbot County.

First Place was awarded to Katherine Binder for her untiled Embroidery work. Second Place went to Lee D’Zmura for her botanical watercolor “Petunias and Tiger Swallowtail”; while Third Place was awarded to Susan MacKinnon for her etching “View of Mull from Iona.” Honorable mentions went to Pat Lang for her oil painting “Lemons and Lace”, Robert Manning for his oil “Delmarva Icon-Perdue Grain Bins”, Beth Taylor for her photograph “Adjust the Sails”, and Anna Harding for her colored pencil botanical work titled “Zeus and the Wild Bunch.”

This joint-collaboration celebrates milestone anniversaries of the Maryland State Arts Council (50th) and the Talbot County Arts Council (40th). The Maryland State Arts Council and Talbot County Arts Council both have provided millions of dollars in arts funding to organizations and schools in Talbot County. Maryland recently ranked third in the United States for money allocated to Arts Spending, and Talbot County is the top recipient in the state. The St. Michaels Art League is also celebrating more than 25 years as an arts organization serving and representing artists from all around the mid-shore.

The awards were presented at a reception at the Easton Library on October 5th. In addition to the art prizes, Addie Eckhardt, Senator for the Maryland House of Delegates and Johnny Mautz, Delegate attended the reception and awarded citations to all three arts organizations from the Governor, the State Senate and the Maryland General Assembly for their milestone anniversaries.

The exhibit is being held at the Talbot County Free Library in Easton located at 100 West Dover St. The show is open through October 31st. Library hours are Monday and Thursday 9am – 8pm; Tuesday and Wednesday 9am-6pm and Friday and Saturday 9am-5pm.
