Recently I went to see a movie. As I usually do I was sitting in the center of the row. As the movie ended I got up to leave, moved down the row to the isle and found that the group that had been sitting there had left a huge mess. Popcorn littered the floor as well as the empty container. The floor felt sticky with what I was sure was spilled cola.
In a way it mess-up my entire theatre going experience!
Why can’t people pick up after themselves? Why leave a hug mess. This one alone would take several minutes for the ushers to clean up before the next showing. And this wasn’t the only mess I noticed.
So my question is, Do you clean up after yourself at the movies? And if you don’t, Why not?
I carry away my trash and try not to spill things, both as a contribution to civilized society and out of empathy for the theater employees. Those who don’t (who aren’t typically the type of people who would read a local arts, geography, and culture blog) may have issues in their lives which make them feel like exercising some petty disrespect as compensation for the powerlessness that they experience elsewhere. This is not to excuse it, but rather to analyze it.
