Also opening that night will be a solo show from our Juror and Awards Judge, Alida Fish. Ms. Fish is known for her still life work using manipulated photo processes, mythic tableaux of flora and curiosities, and disquieting spectral images. Throughout her career, she has indulged the make-believe, using photography as a tool for her imagination. In her words: “The impulse to populate and control an invented world has led to photographs of sculptures that appear to metamorphose into living flesh, plants that emerge as heroic in their struggle to exist, and curious objects that are a testament to the wonders of life on this planet.”
Ms. Fish is Professor Emerita at The University of the Arts, Philadelphia, where she served as Chair of the Media Arts Department, and later Interim Dean of the College of Art, Media, and Design. Her photographs have been exhibited throughout the country in galleries and museums including The Portland Museum, The Albright-Knox, and The Florence Griswold Museum. She has been a resident artist at institutions such as The American Academy in Rome, Anderson Ranch in Colorado, and Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, New York.
Ms. Fish will be giving a Gallery Talk on Saturday, January 5,2019 at 2pm in RAL’s Corkran Gallery, where she will discuss her process of selecting works for the exhibition as well as her artistic response to some of the pieces in the exhibition. Artists are invited to engage in an open or private dialogue of their works.
The winter gallery hours at the Rehoboth Art League are Tuesday through Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 12pm-4pm. The opening reception and Gallery Talk are free and open to the public. Both exhibitions run through February 7, 2019 and RAL’s current Members’ Sales Gallery Exhibit runs through March 12, 2019.
