“Main Street Rock Hall” is pleased to announce the names of the Eastern Shore artists who have been selected to develop and implement a public art project in Rock Hall, as follows: Chestertown artist Ken Castelli, who will redesign and recreate the Bayside Foods mural depicting the lives and traditions of Chesapeake Bay watermen; Wye River Upper School (in Centreville) Art Teacher Katie Lillard and Language Teacher Karen Gilbert, in consultation with Hagopian Arts muralists. This team will redesign and recreate the mural on the back wall of the Mainstay to depict the natural resources of the Chesapeake Bay; mural artist Kirk Seese of BB Murals, in collaboration with Jen Jasper of Cecil County, who will redesign and recreate the mural behind Java Rock depicting the lives and traditions of Eastern Shore farmers.
All of the selected artists will be working with Kent County Public School art teachers to elicit input and involvement from local school children, in March and April, on this project. The murals are scheduled for painting in May and June.
