Learn to make rope fenders at The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum

Boating Classes Museum Talbot

St Michaels – The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is planning a workshop this spring to teach its guests one of the great arts of seamanship—creating decorative rope fenders. Advanced registration is required for this program, which is scheduled for 10am–4pm Saturday, May 25.

Participants are invited to join Pete Peters and CBMM’s Shipyard Programs Manager Jennifer Kuhn in the Boatshop, where they will gain a working knowledge of how to fashion rope fenders and leave with their own creation. Peters is an avid sailor and active member of the Traditional Small Craft Association. He’s previously led programs on making rope fenders at the Wooden Boat Festival at Mystic Seaport Museum and at CBMM’s annual Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival.

Materials and basic tools are included in the $75 registration fee. A 20% discount is available for CBMM members. To register, or for more information, visit cbmm.org/ropefenders.

CBMM’s Apprentice for a Day Shipyard Programs take place year-round, offering demonstrations, workshops, intensives with visiting master craftsmen, on-the-water experiences, and customized programming. Programs take place on weekends and select weekdays, and include a variety of programs for every interest and age. To find one that’s right for you, visit cbmm.org/shipyardprograms.
