ST MICHAELS, MD – On Monday, April 29, 2019 beginning at 5:00pm, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum will host author, beachcomber, and educator Mary T. McCarthy as she leads an intimate conversation about the Beach Finds of the Chesapeake exhibition, which opened April 6 at CBMM and continues through June 29. Seating is limited, with advanced registration needed.

The exhibition is organized by The Sea Glass Center—a non-profit organization preserving and presenting the significance of sea glass through education—and explores a sampling of the Chesapeake’s beachcombing finds, from shark teeth and other 20-million-year-old Miocene-era fossils, to Victorian doll parts and marbles, to the modern plastic toys and marine debris found today. After the talk, participants can explore the Beach Finds of the Chesapeake exhibition in CBMM’s Van Lennep Auditorium.

McCarthy is The Sea Glass Center’s Executive Director and serves on the North American Sea Glass Association’s Board of Directors as Education Chair. She has served as a lecturer and judge at numerous conferences around the country, including the International Beachcombing Conference, North American Sea Glass Festival, Santa Barbara Sea Glass & Ocean Arts Festival, Northeast Sea Glass Expo, Great Lakes Beach Glass & Coastal Arts Festival, Santa Cruz Sea Glass and Ocean Arts Festival, and Long Beach Island Sea Glass Festival, among others. McCarthy’s trilogy—The Scarlet Letter Society, The Scarlet Letter Scandal, and The Scarlet Letter Storm—published between 2014 and 2016.

McCarthy’s just-released children’s book, I Sea: A Beachcombing Treasure Hunt, challenges readers to find hidden beach treasures among pages filled with clever riddles and photos of colorful marine debris from beaches around the world. The book is available for purchase on Amazon.

The Beach Finds of the Chesapeake lecture takes place in CBMM’s Van Lennep Auditorium and is $7.50 per person, with a 20% discount for CBMM members, and advanced registration at cbmm.org/beachfinds. For more information, visit cbmm.org or call 410-745-2916.
