Photo by SGAtkinson - Clone Wye Oak
From from 1941 until June 6, 2002 when the Wye Oak was destroyed during a severe thunderstorm, it was the oldest white oak tree in the United States. In 2002 it was believed to be over 460 years old. A clone of the tree was planted in the remains of the trunk of the original tree during a June 6, 2006 ceremony.
