Chestertown, MD. – For the second summer, Kent County resident Christina Stinchcomb is opening her farm to local youth for a powerful experiential workshop, A Hero’s Journey. With partial support through a grant from the Maryland Horse Industry Board, a division of the Department of Agriculture, Ms. Stinchcomb is able to provide scholarships to some local youth who might not otherwise be able to participate. “Horses offer us an incredible opportunity to see ourselves through eyes that are not clouded by judgment,” she said. “It’s a great way to build self-confidence and strong communication skills in a very safe and supportive environment.”
Ms. Stinchcomb is a certified Equine Gestalt Coach and a strong believer in the power of horses to teach us how to be more comfortable traveling down the complicated path of life. Typically, her clients are adults who are seeking a shift or new perspective and they come for one-on-one sessions with Ms. Stinchcomb and her horses. A Hero’s Journey, with an arts and crafts component as well as various activities with the horses, is geared specifically toward children from 8-12 and touches on themes like self-inquiry and building self-esteem. Participants will also learn about herd dynamics and explore the tools of clear, honest communication with themselves and others.
This year the program will be held over two Saturdays, the 15th and 22nd of June, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Cost is $195 and includes lunch both days; there are still two scholarships available. To find out how a young person in your life can participate, contact Airy Hill Stables atairyhillstables.com/contact or by phone, 410.778.2479. Everyone in the family will benefit from your child’s enhanced skills of compassion, communication and leadership.
