For many their way onto Maryland’s Eastern Shore and the Delmarva Peninsula is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, or simply the Bay Bridge. The bridge, which opened in 1952, is officially called the Gov. William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge. A parallel span was added in 1973.
The Bay Bridge and the C&D Canal Bridge are the only two ways to get onto Maryland’s Eastern Shore by car.
