REHOBOTH BEACH, DE – On Friday, June 14th 2019 from 5-7 pm, the Rehoboth Art League (RAL) will host an opening reception for the 46th Annual Members’ Fine Craft Exhibition, and three solo shows, including Amend—works by Heidi Lowe, Vicissitudes—works by G.W. Thompson, and A Moment—works by Sydney McGinley.

The Members’ Fine Craft Exhibition is a signature show of the Art League, and it contains fine craft works created by member artists in a wide variety of media, including baskets, ceramics, fiber, glass, handmade paper, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media and wood. Over 25 artists are participating in this year’s exhibition. Six awards, including Best in Show, Excellence in Ceramics, Excellence in Fiber Art, Excellence in Jewelry, Award of Excellence, and the League’s newest award, The Amelie Sloan Award for Hand Building, will be given for exceptional works. This year’s awards judge is Trudi C. Van Dyke who is a national fine arts and crafts juror who specializes in contemporary fine craft and has been the awards judge for dozens of major craft exhibitions throughout the United States.

Amend, a solo exhibition by Heidi Lowe, will be held in the Corkran Gallery. Amend consists of a series of engravings and wearable pieces that investigate the idea of mending in all its forms. The current body of work explores a personal story and interconnection to a larger narrative. Heidi Lowe employs jewelry as her medium of choice for its inherent connection to the body and intimacy. Within her jewelry she uses ancient techniques such as engraving and silver-point drawings to investigate family, forgiveness, and loss. Her current work looks at the long lost idea of mending as a metaphor for healing. Ms. Lowe is the owner of Heidi Lowe Gallery, a contemporary art jewelry gallery exhibiting her own works as well as a variety of artists from around the world.

Vicissitudes, works by G.W. Thompson, encompasses a year’s worth of daily paintings in which ideas are formed, mulled, tested, and changed, lending to and inspiring other artistic endeavors. The daily production of a finished image has been an exploration not only of successive practice and building of skills but an illumination of the effects of changing phases of environment and emotional conditions. Painting from his home studio in Lewes, Delaware, G.W. Thompson creates abstract images that focus on environmental issues. He studied studio art and has a BA in Fine Art from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Although Mr. Thompson was born and raised in Lewes, he has only recently moved back to the area and transitioned from a career in accounting and IT to become a full-time artist. He has shown his work at Peninsula Gallery in Lewes and is a member of Delaware By Hand. Mr. Thompson is also one of this year’s recipients of the Delaware Division of the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship Emerging Artist Grant.

Featured in the Peter Marsh Homestead is A Moment—works by Sydney McGinley. Ms. McGinley, who is inspired by the female figure in its grace and mystery and whose intention in this exhibition is to capture one brief moment when time is framed, when it harnesses the subject and the viewer. Ms. McGinley is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and has been designated as a Master Pastelist by this New York City Organization. She has won many national and international awards and her work can be found in collections in the United States and Europe. Several of Ms. McGinley’s works have been included in publications such as The Pastel Journal, American Artist, The Artists’ Magazine, Pratique des Arts, and Fine Art Connoisseur.

Finally, on Saturday, June 15, at 2:00 pm in the Corkran Gallery, the Rehoboth Art League will host a Gallery Talk by Trudi C. Van Dyke, the judge of the 46th Annual Members’ Fine Craft Exhibition. Ms. Van Dyke will give an overview of this large exhibition and discuss her award- winning choices. Artists are invited to have open or private feedback of their works.
