REHOBOTH BEACH, DE – The Rehoboth Art League has awarded artist Rosemary Connelly the commission to paint the seven homes for this years’ 70th Annual Cottage Tour of Art, which will be held in July. Ms. Connelly, originally from Brooklyn, NY, is a watermedia artist living and working in Milford, Delaware. Playful use of line and color are hallmarks of her painting style. Her layered approach to painting suggests the passage of time and human existence as she finds inspiration in historic towns, aging factories and barns, and the beauty of the eastern shore.
Rosemary studied fine art, drawing, painting and graphic design at Arizona State University and Mesa Community College and has worked for over 20 years as a professional graphic designer. Two years living and painting in Italy with her late husband fulfilled a dream to “live cheap and make art,” living a simple life focused on experiences, not material things. Travel remains an integral part of her life and work.
Her work has been included in shows at Station Gallery in Greenville and Biggs Museum in Dover, DE, and the Anne Lloyd Gallery in Decatur, IL. Her acrylic painting “Lewes Harbour Marina” was selected to hang in Delaware Senator Thomas Carper’s, Wilmington office. She has been juried into shows throughout the state of Delaware, winning awards for her watercolors. Connelly also practices and teaches the art of Watercolor Journaling and Urban Sketching and has taught workshops in New York, Illinois, California, Vermont, at Longwood Gardens, Pennsylvania, and all over the state of Delaware including the Delaware Art Museum.
Rosemary is a member of the Rehoboth and Mispillion Art Leagues, Milton Arts Guild and Urban Sketchers. She is a founding member of Urban Sketchers Delaware and Chairperson of The Big Draw Delaware 2019 being organized by the Mispillion Art League, taking place in October throughout the state of Delaware, part an international Festival of Drawing.
The 70th Annual Cottage Tour of Art will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 9 and 10. The tour is from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. each day. Connelly will create a watercolor of each of the seven private homes, as well as the Art League’s historic Peter Marsh Homestead. Images of Connelly’s works will be used in the tour program and her original watercolors will be awarded to the home owners during a June thank you reception. Rosemary’s rendition of the historic Homestead will be available as a giclée print and available for sale in the gallery during the Cottage Tour.
Cottage Tour tickets are $35 per person and are available for purchase in the Events section on the RAL website, RehobothArtLeague.org or by calling 302.227.8408. The tour is appropriate for ages 13 and above. By mid-June tickets will also be available at several local locations which will be announced on the website.
