REHOBOTH BEACH, DE – On Friday, September 6, 2019, from 5-7pm, The Rehoboth Art League will hold five openings for exhibitions on its historic Henlopen Acres campus. In the Corkran Gallery, Paintings and Drawings from Nature, works by Mary Page Evans, is an exhibition that draws from nature and showcases painted landscapes meant to capture their locale, the time of day, and quality of light. Ms. Evans’ work strives for a visual back and forth in the space resulting from forms and colors reacting to each other like music. She exhibits in Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC and has artwork in numerous public and private collections, including The National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Delaware Art Museum, and the State Museum of Pennsylvania.

Also opening that evening is Recent Work by the Journey Clay Collective. This diverse group of ceramists—coming from Canada, Florida, Alabama, Maryland, New York, and New Jersey—has been meeting since 2013 to develop their work. The creative and experimental ceramic work in this exhibition is the culmination of each artist’s creative journey over the past five years. They each have a distinctive artistic vision, ranging from functional to sculptural, narrative to abstract, lyrical to playful.

Going Deeper: Finding the Inspiration from Within, works by Karen Burns, will be on display in the Ventures Gallery. Ms. Burns’ work experiments with intention, prayer, and music to use as a springboard for creating digital work that inspires individuals to grow and explore and be all that they can be. She is a local mixed media artist specializing in digital art and uses photographs, personal paintings, scanned images, and bits of ephemera to create layered digital images that she prints onto canvas or paper. Her work has been published in online magazines and she has displayed her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions and galleries in Delaware, Maryland, and North Carolina.

In the Tubbs Gallery will be a two-person exhibition, A Slice of Space: A Stroke in Time, works by Dr. Martie Geiger-Ho and Kong Ho. This display will showcase Martie Geiger-Ho’s “Terraformation Series” of vessels in conjunction with Kong Ho’s “Luminosity Series” of floral-spiral paintings. Though they use different mediums and styles, the artist couple connects through the content of their artwork, finding inspiration in the natural beauty of their living environment, which is close to the South China Sea. Join Mr. Ho for a Gallery Talk on Saturday, September 7, at 2pm on the Art League’s campus. Hear about his practice, creative process, and how he utilizes his bicultural background as a teaching artist professionally trained in both Chinese and Western visual art.

Featured in the Peter Marsh Homestead is Mindful Focus, works by Andy Gordon. Mr. Gordon’s photographs are abstract, and each piece shares an intense focus, minimization, and search for unique elements. Andy Gordon specializes in abstract and minimalist images ranging from tiny objects to landscapes. He uses advanced imaging techniques to capture high levels of detail and depth, emphasizing the shape, form, and texture of his subjects. He received formal training at the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology where he earned a BA in Photojournalism and a MS in Printing Technology.

All of these events are free and open to the public. The Rehoboth Art League is located at 12 Dodds Lane, in Henlopen Acres. Hours are 10:00am – 4:00pm Monday through Saturday and Sunday 12:00-4:00pm.
