The following Academy Art Museum exhibitions are sponsored by the Talbot County Arts Council, the Maryland State Arts Council, and the Star Democrat. Open daily, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Antonio McAfee: Legacy
April 24–July 8, 2020

Antonio McAfee (born 1983 Stuttgart, Germany) is a visual artist based in Baltimore, MD. McAfee has been featured in BmoreArt Magazine, The Washington Post, Washington City Paper, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Baltimore City Paper, among others. He was the first-prize winner in the Academy Art Museum’s New Photography Inaugural National Juried Exhibition in 2018 and is currently a Fellow at Hamiltonian Gallery and a professor at American University, George Washington University, and Maryland Institute College of Art. This is his first American solo museum exhibition.

New Photography II: National Juried Exhibition
April 24–July 8, 2020
Public Opening Reception: April 24, 5:30 p.m.
Open daily from 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
This national juried show features all types of photographic works, including digital, analog, and alternative processes from artists across the country. Philip Brookman, Consulting Curator Department of Photographs, National Gallery of Art Washington, DC, is this year’s juror. Awards include a Best in Show award ($1,000); Second Prize award ($500); and Third Prize award ($250). The previous juried photography exhibition in 2018, New Photography: National Juried Exhibition, was a smashing success.

Gamelatron @ AAM: Bodyphones

Front Yard Through Summer 2020
The Academy Art Museum presents Bodyphones, an immersive installation by Aaron Taylor Kuffner (1975). Kuffner is an American conceptual artist, based in New York. The artwork’s goal is to expand the legacy and creative cultural power of the traditional Indonesian gamelan through innovation.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Grand Re-Opening Community Celebration
Saturday, April 25, 1 – 4 p.m.
Come enjoy the new formal entrance to the Museum through the beautiful and underused courtyard facing Harrison Street. The project, led by Willow Construction and Top 50 US Architects Ziger/Snead of Baltimore, MD, represents the first major renovations to the Museum’s galleries, restrooms and visitor spaces in 30 years! Enjoy docent tours, a family art project, music in the new Courtyard, refreshments, and Women Artists in Costume while enjoying the Museum’s renovations.

Better yet, come to the Academy Art Museum’s eARTh Arts Day Extravaganza and make some great projects to take back home. The Museum is once again teaming up with Horn Point Laboratory to bring you exciting new projects.
