On Eastern Neck Island

Chesapeake Country Roads Kent, MD Other News Points of Interest

Entrance Eastern Neck Island

Even though Eastern Neck Island, located in Kent County, MD at the confluence of the Chester River and the Chesapeake Bay was one of the first places settled by the English Colonists, today it is a 2,285 acre island wildlife refuge.

Established in 1962 as a sanctuary for migratory birds, Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge is an major migration stopover and wintering area for thousands of waterfowl. The refuge provides natural habitat for over 240 bird species — including bald eagles and transitory peregrine falcons — and is a major staging site for tundra swans.

And it is a wonderful location to visit and commune with nature any time of the year.
