On Wednesday June 15, 2022 Gen. Jesse Green Grave to be Marked by The U.S. Daughters of 1812. the ceremony will be at 11am at St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Seaford, Delaware
Adj. Gen. Jesse Green was born on June 12, 1766 in Charles County, Maryland, the eldest son of Thomas Dudley and Mary Simms Green. He was first married to Sarah Buchanan, by whom he had one child. After her death, he married Elizabeth Gunby, a granddaughter of Col. Gunby of Revolutionary War fame. He had 12 children with his wife Elizabeth.
During the War of 1812, Jesse Green, of Sussex County, was Adjutant General of the state, serving from 1808-1814. He served in the militia and was present during the British bombardment of Lewes.
Gen Green was a Delaware state senator from 1812-1815 and was Speaker of the State Senate in 1815. He then served in the Delaware State Legislature for 33 sessions.
An avid Mason, he was Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Delaware AF & Am from 1809-1812.
He was the grandfather of Elizabeth Emeline Hall Ross, wife of William Henry Harrison Ross, the 38th Governor of Delaware.
Gen. Green died on August 21, 1834 in Concord, Sussex County, Delaware and is buried in St. Luke’s Cemetery in Seaford, Sussex County, Delaware.
