Rehoboth Art League’s July Openings Include the Member’s Fine Art Exhibition

Sussex

REHOBOTH BEACH, DE – The Rehoboth Art League invites the public to its galleries from 5-7pm on Friday, July 22, to celebrate the opening of a new series of exhibitions, including the Annual Members’ Fine Art Exhibition, now in its 84th year. This summertime favorite showcases artwork by more than 80 member artists in a wide variety of media, including paintings in pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and mixed media; sculptures of both metal and wood; photography, and more.

Following a long-standing tradition, a variety of awards are presented, and this year’s show will be judged by David M. Brinley, an award-winning artist and illustrator sought out by leading publications such as TIME magazine, Rolling Stone, Newsweek, and more. David will present a free Gallery Talk at 10am on Saturday, July 23, in the Corkran Gallery to provide an overview of his awards decisions and to discuss other notable pieces from the Members’ Fine Art Exhibition.

The waterways of Delmarva will flood the Ventures gallery, as Donna M. Finley depicts secluded and lesser-known water scenes in her solo show, Hidden Waters. This exhibition of pastel paintings highlights the hidden waters in out-of-the-way places that residents and tourists hardly ever see, especially those scenes where the trees along the banks form either a backdrop or boundaries to these secret locations.

Melissa Husted-Sherman will have still-life paintings on display in the historic Peter Marsh Homestead building. Still is an exhibition that explores the painting process and how a painting changes over time. The nature of still life is inviting and comfortable, allowing an audience to approach it easily. The accessible size of these paintings, generally in the range of 8 x 10” to 36 x 36”, invites close inspection of the work. The exhibit encourages the viewer to slow down and closely examine a painting, making it easy to contemplate the development of the work.

Finally, the DeWitt gallery will showcase specially selected works from the RAL Collections, many of which have never been displayed before. The Rehoboth Art League is one of a few active art collecting organizations in Delaware. The collection currently contains over 900 items and includes many historical works by prominent Delaware ‘Heritage’ artists, who were instrumental in the formation of the league, in 1938.

We invite the public to an opening reception for all four shows on Friday, July 22, from 5-7 pm. The exhibitions are free and open to everyone during the regular gallery hours of Monday through Saturday, 10am to 4pm and Sunday, noon to 4pm.
