The Garfield Center for the Arts and Director Marcia Gilliam have announced audition dates for Ken Ludwig’s Sherlock Holmes comedy, “Baskerville.”
Auditions will occur at the Garfield Center on Saturday, February 10th, at 1:00 PM, and Tuesday and Thursday, February 13th and 15th, both at 6:30 PM.
The play’s afoot, so get your deerstalker cap on! “Baskerville” brings us a fast-paced adventure about everyone’s favorite detective solving his most notorious case. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson must crack the mystery of “The Hound of the Baskervilles” before a family curse dooms its newest heir. Watch as our intrepid investigators try to escape a dizzying web of clues, silly accents, disguises and deceit. Does a wild hellhound prowl the moors of Devonshire? Can our heroes discover the truth in time? Audition for this hilarious play to join the fun!
Character breakdowns provided by the Director:
Sherlock Holmes – adult (30s-60s). Highly intelligent, confident, charismatic, quick witted, obsessive. Thinks highly of himself and Watson. Sophisticated mind, savors adventure and intriguing mystery. Manic mischievous gleam in his eyes. Mind that works overtime.
Watson – Smart, grounded, full of heart and wonder (but not naïve), loves adventures, loves assisting Sherlock. Not just a narrator: we see the story through his eyes. He is the heart and soul of the play.
Three additional actors with great versatility, nimbleness, physicality and dialects are needed.
Actor 1 roles (over 10 roles) include Stapleton (seemingly geeky butterfly lover, is really a psychopath), Barrymore (mournful caretaker of Baskerville Hall), Milker (scrappy Dickensian urchin boy), Lucy (Wilson’s wife), and Mortimer.
Actor 2 roles include Sir Hugo (brutal, cruel cavalier), Wilson (head of messenger office) Sir Henry (young adventurous Texan – accent important), and Inspector Lestrade (police inspector – accent important)
Actor 3 roles include Miss Stapleton (S’s “sister,” falls in love with Texan), Cartwright (scrappy Dickensian urchin boy), Mrs. Barrymore (severe, humorless Swedish caretaker of Baskerville Hall – accent important), and Mrs. Hudson (older, maternal, Holmes’ housekeeper).
