Attorney General Anthony Brown issued the following statement on appointing Adileh Sharieff to the Maryland Commission on Hate Crime Response and Prevention.

“Today, I appointed Adileh Sharieff to the Maryland Commission on Hate Crime Response and Prevention. The Commission is charged with developing strategies to address hate crimes and hate bias activity in Maryland and evaluating state laws and policies related to hate crimes.

“At a time of increased reports of hate activity in Maryland, including Anti-Muslim and Anti-Palestinian hate, I am confident that Ms. Sharieff will bring a critical voice to the diverse group of stakeholders that we have convened to help eradicate hate in our schools and communities.

“Ms. Sharieff, a resident of Montgomery County, previously served on the Board of Trustees for the Islamic Center of Maryland and still volunteers with the Center’s social services and outreach programs. Over the last four years, she has partnered with numerous organizations around the State to combat food insecurity and other social inequities. Most recently, Ms. Sharieff co-chaired the Muslim Cohort of the Montgomery County Council Anti-Hate Task Force.

“Ms. Sharieff will serve in an acting capacity until confirmed by the Senate during the 2025 legislative session.”
