EASTON, MD
Glenda Cornish, Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) at UM Shore Regional Health (UM SRH), was recently awarded the Mid Shore Nursing Assistant Advisory Council’s CNA of the Year Award.
“I am honored and thrilled to be selected as CNA of the Year,” said Cornish. “My profession gives me great joy and I’m proud to be recognized for excellence in patient care.”
Cornish has been a CNA for 45 years, 36 of them at UM SRH, a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System. She is based at UM Shore Emergency Center at Cambridge.
Cornish was chosen from among 23 candidates who were nominated for the annual award by supervisors and peers representing hospital, medical practice, assisted living and Alzheimer’s care, home care and skilled nursing entities in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties. Nominees are evaluated from criteria that includes patient safety, leadership, teamwork, compassion, professionalism and work ethic.
“We are thrilled that Glenda received this well-deserved award,” said Danielle Wilson, Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for UM SRH. “We are proud to have presented so many wonderful nominees for this year’s awards. This dedicated group of professionals deserves recognition for the essential work they do. I am deeply grateful.”
Cornish was nominated by fellow team member Meghan Thompson, RN, who wrote: “Glenda Cornish is an amazing CNA who goes above and beyond for her ER family and patients every day. She is always willing to help others learn and give them tips and tricks to succeed. I could tell you that she is punctual and that attributes to her professionalism, but she is so much more than that. She is a staple of our community. I cannot tell you how many patients and their families come in and are so relieved when they see Glenda’s smile. I always hear, ‘Hey girl how are you! How is the family?’ Many members of our community remember her from the old hospital and tell their stories about how she cared for them. She is genuinely compassionate and tends to all our patients and their families the same. She treats everyone with respect and dignity. She is a kindhearted, fun, and a true asset to our team. For nurses week this year, she took it upon herself to make and provide the nurses on duty with lunch one day. We are so lucky to have her and appreciate all her hard work.”
Seventeen additional SRH team members were nominated for the award: Taylor Ball, Ernest Beasley, Susan Bonwill, Lacy Brown, Aliyah Dorsey, Amyia Johnson, Jillian Lovett, Taylor Lloyd, Jaira Miles, Randall Mills, Andrew Palmonka, Haylee Robinson, Eva Ross, Bianca Smith, Ann Thrift, Chloe Torres, and Hailei Willin.
