Ocean City Police Department K-9 Unit has gone Green

Beaches Police Worcester

Ocean City, MD

The Ocean City Police Department K-9 Unit has gone green! This uniform change is part of updating the unit’s ability to utilize the latest technology and operational readiness for deployments day or night.

The OCPD K-9, founded in the late 1960s, is one of the oldest K-9 Units in Maryland. It is a 24/7, 365-day-per-year unit consisting of five (5) working patrol/narcotics dog handler teams. The K-9 teams all work patrol as their primary function and are dedicated to supporting the OCPD through community engagement. These teams constantly prepare for high-risk scenarios, tracking and searching, narcotics detection, civil unrest, and even the apprehension of violent and/or dangerous persons.

Going green, a color symbolizing safety, makes our K-9 Teams easily recognizable, fosters seamless coordination with allied agencies, and distinguishes our Officers through high visibility, defining their specialty roles and responsibilities. Our adoption of a green uniform further promotes consistency and familiarity within the law enforcement community nationwide and reinforces the unique nature of K9 operations.

Look for our K-9 Teams in their new uniforms, and be sure to show your support! Whether it’s a friendly wave or a word of encouragement, your support means a lot to us.

We want to extend a heartfelt thanks to Grant Gursky for his loyal support and photography of our Officers.
