Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced his decision to not seek charges in the July 22, 2024, fatal police-involved pursuit in Easton, Talbot County, Maryland.

On Monday, July 22, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m., deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, in marked police cruisers, attempted to initiate a traffic stop, in the area of Route 50 and Dutchmans Lane in Easton. The deputies activated their emergency equipment signaling to the driver to stop. The driver of the car did not stop and continued traveling along Route 50. The deputies pursued the vehicle for several minutes. During the pursuit, officers from the Easton Police Department assisted the deputies. The pursuit ended several minutes later when the car crashed into a tree in the 8300 block of Black Dog Alley. The vehicle was occupied with four people. Officers rendered aid to all occupants until EMS arrived on scene. The driver, a juvenile male, and two rear passengers, a juvenile male and an adult female, were transported to a local hospital, treated, and released. The front passenger, an adult woman, was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The IID began investigating the fatal pursuit on July 22, 2024, and concluded its investigation on January 16, 2025. After completing its investigation and evaluating all the available evidence, the Office of the Attorney General has determined that none of the officers involved in the fatal police pursuit committed a crime under Maryland law. Accordingly, the Attorney General has declined to prosecute any of the officers in this case.
