Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore (BBBSES) is proud to announce its collaboration with the NFL Inspire Change initiative to launch its highly anticipated annual recruiting campaign – The Big Draft! As the NFL works to draft the next generation of athletes, BBBSES is focused on drafting the next generation of mentors. Our mission this season is to recruit 100 new mentors between the Super Bowl to the NFL Draft and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore needs the continuous community support to help make this vision a reality.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore has been a cornerstone of the community for over 40 years, making a lasting, positive impact in the lives of countless children and teenagers across nine counties: Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Caroline, Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester. The need for mentors is more urgent than ever, with the demand for positive role models far exceeding the number of children and teens on the waiting list. To address this, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore is launching the Big Draft campaign to recruit dedicated individuals who can make a difference in the lives of children facing adversity.

” As a Program Lead, I meet children in our community, in need of a caring adult role model to guide and support them. Right now, there is a child that needs someone to encourage them, listen to them, and help them reach their potential. We need mentors-people from all walks of life-who are willing to step forward and make a difference. Just a few hours a month can change a child’s life for the better, forever” says Katie Douglas of BBBSES.

This partnership with the NFL Inspire Change initiative brings attention to the importance of mentorship and its ability to drive social change. Since the start of the initiative in 2020, through mentorship, children and young adults are given the tools to succeed. The proven benefits in academic achievement, self-esteem, mental health, and overall well-being. Mentors help build confidence, provide guidance, and offer the kind of consistent, positive influence that can change the course of a child’s life.

“The NFL Inspire Change Initiative creates opportunities that empower and uplift children in our communities. This partnership reinforces the importance of mentorship in fostering positive change, breaking down barriers and building stronger communities. Every child deserves a caring role model and with the support of Inspire Change, we can reach more young people in need”, says Jessica Mimms, BBBSES Executive Director.

Becoming a mentor is a rewarding and life-changing experience. It requires as little as a few hours per month to have an immeasurable impact on a young person’s life. Whether it is through sharing advice, encouraging academic achievement, or simply spending quality time together, mentors help youth navigate the challenges they face, while also guiding them toward their future goals.

Big Brother Big Sister of the Eastern Shore is inviting individuals to take on the very rewarding role of a mentor. Whether a local business professional, a community leader, or simply someone who wants to make a positive impact, the time commitment is flexible, and the rewards are immeasurable. Volunteers receive the support, training, and resources they need to ensure they can make the most of their mentoring experience.
