The Queen Anne’s County Department of Parks and Recreation announces the temporary closure of several areas at Matapeake on or about March 6 to April 6, 2025, for a dredging and beach replenishment project conducted by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
The following locations will be closed to the public during this time:
• Matapeake Landing (Fishing Pier & Boat Ramp)
Located on Route 8, three miles south of Route 50, this facility features a 650-foot lighted fishing pier and a 25-foot-wide boat ramp. The three-acre park also includes restrooms and a picnic area.
• Matapeake Beach and Grounds
This popular public space in Stevensville features the county’s only public swimming beach, an outdoor amphitheater, a family picnic area, and a scenic one-mile trail with views of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
• Matapeake Dog Beach
Accessible via a wooded nature trail, the dog-friendly beach offers a designated area for pets to enjoy the waterfront. Parking is available at the Matapeake Clubhouse and Public Beach lot.
This maintenance project is essential to preserving the shoreline and public access to these facilities. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation during the closure.
