The process of using pen and ink to make a drawing dates back to 7th and 8th century China. Combining watercolor with pen and ink has also been used by artists and illustrators for years. One of the great characteristics of this wonderful blending of media is its’s ability to be used in small formats. Pen and ink watercolor paintings can be incredibly small and still be packed with detail and realism.

If you would like to learn how to create a small format pen and ink watercolor painting, register for the Rehoboth Art League’s class “Pen and Ink Watercolor Miniatures” on Thursday mornings, May 3 through 24 from 9 a.m. to noon. The instructor Edilu Nehrbas will teach participants how to make miniature life drawings of bees, berries, fish, shells, landscapes and more. The drawings will then be incorporated into one-of-a-kind notecards or special tiny hanging works of art. The cost is $115 for members and $150 for non-members.

To register for the class, go to www.rehobothartleague.org or call the Art League at 302-227-8408 ext. 112. All classes are held at the Rehoboth Art League located at 12 Dodds Lane in Henlopen Acres, Rehoboth Beach.
