Salisbury, MD Women Supporting Women has been around for a quarter of a century and aims to celebrate this momentous occasion with the community.
Women Supporting Women has been in existence for 25 years, originating in 1993 from the minds of three local women; Harriet Fine, Carol Prager and Sue Revelle. Their forethought brought about this non-profit organization to help breast cancer survivors on Delmarva. Originally the services began with pink informational tote bags that were housed in the basement of Sue Revelle’s house. It then morphed into the plethora of free services Women Supporting Women offers today.
Beginning in July, WSW will celebrate their 25th Anniversary with an open house and ribbon cutting at their office beginning at 4:30 PM on July 26, 2018. Community members are encouraged to tour the office and mingle with survivors, supporters and the like. Additional celebratory events include the 17th Annual Walk for Awareness on October 13th and the 25th Anniversary Gala on November 2nd at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina.
Executive Director, Cindy Feist, says “our non-profit offers services that truly make a difference to someone with breast cancer and the almost daily phone calls and interactions with survivors are a testament to that.” In addition to these forms of praise, the social media reviews and in-person conversations let us know how much our services are appreciated. A local breast cancer survivor offers, “Women Supporting Women has been a light in the darkness that is my breast cancer battle. When I was not sure where to go, they were there to offer help and guidance. I have really enjoyed all the events, support groups and fundraising activities that I have taken part in. Thank you, WSW, for being there when I was so overwhelmed.”
Turning 25 years old is a huge milestone for Women Supporting Women and Feist looks forward to sharing our gratitude with attendees on how far we have come.
