First Lady Yumi Hogan hosted the First Lady’s Gallery Awards presentation during the Fall Student Artwork Exhibition, October 1, 2018. Mrs. Hogan is an accomplished artist, a professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art, and an avid supporter of arts education, and these exhibitions featuring Maryland student artists have become a bi-annual tradition since she assumed the role of First Lady. Prizes were awarded at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Maryland’s 2018 Poetry Out Loud State Champion Cayla Turner recited her original poem “To Live and to Love.”
