ST MICHAELS, MD – Two educational opportunities are returning to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md., this April—Homeschool Day and Family Day. With activities designed for school-age audiences, both programs encourage guests to experience CBMM’s waterfront campus as a family.

On Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 1–4pm, CBMM encourages families to get hands-on with its 18-acre waterfront campus at its biannual Family Day.

Participants will have a chance to explore CBMM through hands-on activities and interactive exhibits, perfect for a day of family fun. Families can use CBMM’s Quest Card to find their way around campus, examining the critters that live in an oyster reef, matching ducks to decoys in our Waterfowling exhibition, and climbing to the top of the 1879 Hooper Strait Lighthouse for panoramic views of the Miles River and St. Michaels harbor.

All Family Day activities are included with regular CBMM admission. Educators are invited to pre-register for free family admission at cbmm.org/familyday.

Homeschool students and accompanying adults are invited to CBMM’s spring Homeschool Day on Tuesday, April 16, selecting either a morning or afternoon program to explore the animals, plants, and environment of the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem.

Students will explore the Bay watershed from large to small by viewing maps of the Chesapeake’s waterways, trying their hand at water quality testing, and examining the many organisms that call an oyster reef home. Families are encouraged to bring a bag lunch and picnic on campus. The Campus Challenge scavenger hunt will also be available for families to explore other museum highlights at their own pace. Individual families and co-op groups alike are welcome to attend.

The cost for Homeschool Day is $5 per registered student or chaperone. Accompanying younger siblings ages 5 and under are free. All participants must register in advance at cbmm.org/homeschoolday.

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to preserving and exploring the history, environment, and culture of the entire Chesapeake Bay region, and making this resource available to all.

Every aspect of fulfilling this mission is driven by CBMM’s values of relevancy, authenticity, and stewardship, along with a commitment to providing engaging guest experiences and transformative educational programming, all while serving as a vital community partner.
